Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to flag off Maruti Suzuki India Limited’s first global battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e-Vitara , from the automaker’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat on August 26, 2025 . This launch marks a defining moment for India’s electric mobility journey, as the Made-in-India electric SUV will not only cater to the domestic market but also be exported to over 100 countries , including key markets in Europe and Japan .

Alongside the e-Vitara launch, PM Modi will inaugurate local hybrid battery electrode production at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant —a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki . This facility will produce critical components domestically, ensuring that over 80% of the battery’s value is manufactured in India .
