Bajaj Auto Fully Resumes Chetak EV Deliveries Across India Ahead of Festive Season

Bajaj Auto has officially announced the full resumption of deliveries of its flagship Chetak electric scooter across India, marking a significant milestone in its EV journey. The move comes after months of disruption caused by a global supply chain crisis, specifically the shortage of rare earth magnets that affected production for several manufacturers worldwide.

Production Restarts Ahead of Schedule

In a proactive step, Bajaj not only resolved the issue but also managed to restart production and shipments ahead of schedule on August 20. This early recovery is expected to ensure that customers awaiting deliveries will receive their scooters well before the upcoming festive season — a crucial sales window for the Indian two-wheeler market.

The company emphasized that despite the challenges, its focus on agility, operational efficiency, and supply chain resilience helped stabilize production much faster than anticipated.

Agility in the Face of Global Challenges

The shortage of rare earth magnets had led to temporary delays in deliveries earlier this year, frustrating many buyers. However, Bajaj Auto’s quick action ensured minimal long-term disruption. According to Eric Vas, President of Urbanite at Bajaj Auto, the company is now actively scaling up its manufacturing capacity to meet the surging demand while continuing to uphold its high standards of quality and reliability.

“Chetak is not just a scooter, it’s a symbol of trust and innovation. We wanted to ensure that our customers experience the festive joy with their Chetak, and restarting shipments ahead of schedule reflects our commitment to them,” said Vas.

Chetak’s Market Leadership

The Bajaj Chetak has witnessed impressive growth in India’s EV two-wheeler segment. The scooter’s market share has doubled since April 2024, underlining its strong consumer appeal. By the end of FY25, Bajaj emerged as India’s top-selling electric scooter brand, outpacing rivals in both urban and semi-urban markets.

Consumers have consistently praised the Chetak for its robust metal body design, premium reliability, and modern features such as connected mobility, long-lasting battery performance, and practical range suited for daily commuting.

Strengthening Bajaj’s EV Position

This timely comeback positions Bajaj Auto to capitalize on the festive demand surge, traditionally a peak season for two-wheeler purchases in India. With growing consumer interest in EVs due to rising fuel costs, government incentives, and increasing awareness of sustainability, the Chetak is poised to strengthen Bajaj’s leadership in the fast-growing electric two-wheeler market.

Industry experts believe that Bajaj’s strong dealer network, trusted brand legacy, and commitment to product quality will continue to give it an edge over newer entrants.

The Road Ahead

Looking forward, Bajaj Auto is expected to ramp up its EV portfolio, expanding the Chetak lineup with new variants and improved features. The company’s ability to navigate global challenges while keeping its customer base satisfied highlights its long-term vision for electric mobility in India.

With deliveries now back on track and consumer demand showing no signs of slowing, Bajaj Auto’s Chetak is set to ride the festive wave — further cementing its reputation as a market leader and trusted name in the Indian EV ecosystem.
