Zomato Launches EV Rental Bike Fleet in Delhi to Power Greener Deliveries

Zomato has kickstarted a major sustainability initiative by launching an Electric Vehicle (EV) rental bike fleet in Delhi. This pilot program introduces 300 EV two-wheelers available for rent to its delivery partners, aiming to replace traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) bikes with cleaner, more sustainable alternatives.

This move is a strategic step in Zomato’s broader vision to achieve 100% EV-based food deliveries by 2030 and reach Net Zero emissions across its food ordering and delivery value chain by 2033. As of March 2025, over 37,000 delivery partners are already using EVs, collectively helping avoid approximately 4,900 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions—an impact comparable to planting 220,000 trees in FY25.

Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer at Zomato’s parent entity Eternal, emphasized the importance of this step:

“Making sustainable mobility accessible to our delivery partners is critical to our mission of ‘better food for more people’. Through these specially designed rental EV bikes, we’re enabling our partners to thrive while helping build a greener tomorrow.”

The initiative supports Zomato’s 2030 sustainability goals, structured across eight pillars: waste-free world, climate-conscious deliveries, zero hunger, inclusive growth, diversity, equity and inclusion, health and wellbeing, customer centricity, and governance.

Zomato’s rival Swiggy has also committed to a 100% EV fleet by 2030, indicating a broader shift in the food delivery industry toward environmental responsibility. The move also aligns with the Delhi government’s vision of transforming the capital into India’s EV hub.

This pilot not only strengthens Zomato’s commitment to climate action but also ensures its delivery workforce is equipped with affordable, efficient, and eco-friendly transportation solutions.
