India’s Electric Two-Wheeler Sales Hit Record High in FY2025

India’s electric two-wheeler (e2W) market saw impressive growth in FY2025, with total sales reaching 1.14 million units. This is a 21% increase compared to 9.48 lakh units in FY2024. The rise in sales shows that more people are choosing electric scooters and bikes over petrol ones.

Sales Performance in FY2025

Here are some key highlights of the sales throughout the year:

  • March 2025 recorded the highest sales with 1,30,274 units, despite a 7% decline from March 2024.
  • October 2024 was a strong month with 1,40,221 units sold, marking an 87% increase from the previous year.
  • July saw rapid growth, with a 97% increase in sales compared to July 2023.
  • May was the lowest-performing month, with sales down 27% YoY.

Even with some ups and downs, the overall trend shows steady growth and increasing demand for electric two-wheelers in India.

Top Electric Two-Wheeler Brands in March 2025

Bajaj Auto led the market, followed by TVS Motor Co and Ola Electric. Below are the top 10 e2W manufacturers:

Rank Manufacturer Units Sold (March 2025)
1 Bajaj Auto 34,863
2 TVS Motor Co 30,453
3 Ola Electric 23,430
4 Ather Energy 15,446
5 Hero MotoCorp 7,977
6 Greaves Electric 5,641
7 Bgauss Auto 2,591
8 Pur Energy 1,805
9 Revolt Motors 1,395
10 Kinetic Green 842

These brands are competing to capture the growing market for electric two-wheelers in India.

Why Are Sales Increasing?

Several factors are driving the rise in e2W sales:

1. Government Support

  • FAME II Scheme: The government offers subsidies to make electric two-wheelers more affordable.
  • Lower GST on EVs: Taxes on EVs are lower compared to petrol bikes.
  • State Incentives: Many states offer discounts and benefits to EV buyers.

2. Better Charging Infrastructure

  • More charging stations and battery swapping facilities are being set up.
  • This is making it easier for people to own and use electric two-wheelers.

3. Rising Fuel Prices

  • Petrol prices continue to rise, making electric two-wheelers a cheaper option in the long run.
  • EVs require less maintenance, saving money for users.

4. Improved Battery Technology

  • New batteries offer longer range and faster charging.
  • This reduces range anxiety and makes EVs more practical.

5. Awareness and Demand for Sustainability

  • People are becoming more aware of environmental benefits.
  • Electric two-wheelers reduce pollution and are a step toward greener transportation.

What’s Next for Electric Two-Wheelers?

The future of e2Ws looks very promising. Experts predict that sales could exceed 1.5 million units in FY2026. Key trends to watch include:

  • More Affordable Models: Companies will launch new, budget-friendly e2Ws.
  • Better Government Policies: More incentives and policies will support growth.
  • Improved Technology: Battery advancements will make e2Ws more efficient and reliable.
  • Easier Financing Options: Banks and NBFCs will offer better loan schemes for e2Ws.

Conclusion

India’s electric two-wheeler industry is growing fast, with record-breaking sales in FY2025. Brands like Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Co, and Ola Electric are leading the market.

With better technology, government support, and consumer interest in sustainability, electric two-wheelers are set to dominate the Indian market.
