Ola will build the world’s largest EV hub in Tamil Nadu.
Ola is taking another step towards its vision of reducing the world’s emissions and dependence on fossil fuels by making India a spectacular hub for electrification.
Ola announced that in Tamil Nadu he will build the world’s largest EV hub with a Gigafactory for 2W cars and lithium batteries.
Bhavish Aggarwal, CEO of Ola Electric, announced on his Twitter account that Ola had signed a memorandum of understanding with Tamil Nadu today. He also thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin for his support and participation in the Tamil Nadu Government.
According to previous reports, Ola Electric will acquire about 1,500 acres of land in Tamil Nadu to set up an electric vehicle factory. The report claims the state government has approved Ola’s plan to acquire the land in what could be one of the largest factory deals in the Indian auto industry.
Citing sources, the report said an announcement by Ola’s CEO Bhavish Aggarwal on the matter could be made in the next few days.
As stated in the report, “the facility will be home to the company’s electric vehicle manufacturing facility, the elements dealer ecosystem, and a battery mobile manufacturing facility.”
Ola plans to invest around 10 million rupees in an electric car park under construction in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu by the end of 2010.
According to the report, Ola already owns around 500 acres of land in the area and is looking at an additional 1,500 acres to increase production capacity for the electric two-wheeler business and manufacture electric vehicles on the land.
Ola wants to house all major vendors and suppliers in the same space.
In addition to increasing the number of scooter variants, Ola CEO Agarwal plans to offer a motorcycle in the next year or so. Last year, Ola launched its first scooter on the market.
According to recent reports, the company also plans to launch its EV taxi service in Bangalore.
The company plans to increase the number of EV taxis in the city to 10,000 at once. Ola founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal argue that the ride-hailing industry is a mature and highly profitable business, despite customers constantly complaining about declining service levels.
