Suzuki plans first electric car to enter into EV market in India

Suzuki plans first electric car
The Japanese automobile company is planning for an all-electric compact model to be made available for around 1.5 million yen ($13,626 or Rs 10-11 lakh) after government subsidies are taken into account, the Nikkei said.
Suzuki spokesperson said, “We have been saying that we will enter EV and strong hybrid cars in India by 2025,” but it has not yet revealed whether it will launch electric vehicles in India first.
Suzuki first company to experiment with electric scooter
Suzuki was one of the first companies to experiment with an electric scooter and the hydrogen fuel cell. The company’s electric scooter is from the Burgman series which can offer a range of around 300 km if driven at 30 kmph top speed. The Burgman battery electric scooter can rival Indian and global competitors.
Since the electric scooter is undergoing several on-road tests for the last two years, information about this scooter is yet to be known. However, we have estimated information about few important specifications of this electric scooter.
The scooter comes with a 3 kW electric motor and a fixed battery pack which has 72 V 48 Ah. The scooter has an approximate certified range of 90-110 km. The 72 V battery pack can take up to 4 hours for a full recharge. Burgman electric may arrive in the Indian market in the last quarter of 2021 with an expected price of 1-1.2 Lakh.
Suzuki, Toshiba Corp. & Denso Corp (AEPPL) partnership
Last year it had announced that Suzuki, Toshiba Corp. and Denso Corp. will jointly known as Automotive Electronics Power Pvt. Ltd (AEPPL) invest ₹3,715 crores in the second phase of their battery venture in Gujarat’s Hansalpur. The investment is part of the ₹5,000-crore corpus that Suzuki announced in October 2019 to build India’s first lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant for electric vehicles.
The trio partnership will manufacture locally 30 million lithium-ion cells per year by 2025. The production capacity is more than 1GWh.The batteries produced by them could be deployed in all-electric vehicles, hybrids and in electric two-wheelers.
