Pure EV develops AI system that detects battery issues
IIT Hyderabad-incubated startup Pure EV has made an announcement that it has developed Artificial Intelligence-driven hardware that can address the defects issues in the lithium-ion battery pack of electric vehicles. The company claims its a next-generation technology that the customers don’t need to visit a service centre to address the battery defects. It can be done at the customer’s home.

The system is known as ‘BaTRics Faraday,’ which does identify various defects in the battery and improves the electro-chemistry potential of the cells. There is no manual intervention required as the process is fully automated by the hardware.
Dr Nishanth Dongari, founder, Pure EV, and associate professor, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, IIT Hyderabad said that “Lithium batteries are the most critical component of electric vehicles. They contain multiple lithium cells welded together in series and parallel arrangements to meet the desired voltage and ampere-hour (Ah) capacity,”
“In case of any defects coming to batteries in any of the cell series, it leads to significant downtime to the EV owners. Additionally, the usage behaviour pattern and Indian environmental conditions put more load on the batteries. It is, indeed, a very difficult task for battery OEM to get the defects rectified through diagnosis and replacement of defective series of cells.”
Pure EV team has designed its artificial intelligence technology batteries that can remotely defect issues without any manual settings. It is based on algorithms that help to detect the electrochemical potential of cells.
Recently, the Pure EV partnered with CSIR-CECRI (Central Electro Chemical Research Institute) on indigenizing Lithium-Ion Battery (LIB) technology for electric vehicles.
The initiative aims to support the Centre’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives in that regard it has signed an MoU with CSIR- CECRI to undertake joint research on the production of battery packs, validation of LIB cells and addressing the specific requirements to make sure the suitability of developed LIBs for critical performance at the Standard Operating Procedure conditions (SoP).
The company has also launched an electric scooter ‘Etrance Neo,’ its new high-speed long-range model, on December 1, 2020. The company has also launched an electric scooter ‘Etrance Neo,’ its new high-speed long-range model, on December 1, 2020. It is the second high-speed electric scooter eTrance Neo from the company. The etrance Neo is an upgraded version of Etrance plus. The design is the same as etrance plus, but the performance is equal to epluto 7G.
