Hyundai unveils new E-GMP platform for next-gen EVs

Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled the new platform that will help it for its next-generation electric vehicles. The company’s new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) will provide some performance profits for its existing vehicle architecture designed for internal combustion engines and also vehicle development and manufacturing.

Hyundai unveils new E-GMP platform

As per the company, the battery electric vehicles (BEVs) built off the E-GMP platform will offer range more than 500 km (310 mph) from a full battery and can charge up to 80% within 18 minutes. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3.5 seconds and can give a top speed of 260 km/h (161 mph).

The vehicles will be compatible with 800-V fast-charging infrastructure and 350 kW standard charging. The company claims that it is the first multi-charging system of its type. The charging system can also discharge electricity at 110 and 220 V and can be used to power other electric vehicles.

The platform’s main components will be a battery pack under the cabin and an all-in-one motor, transmission, and inverter designed and developed by Hyundai.

Albert Biermann, president and head of R&D for the Hyundai Motor Group, said the rear-wheel-driven-based E-GMP will extend Hyundai’s “technological leadership into segments where customers demand excellent driving dynamics and outstanding efficiency.”

The company’s Smart EV project includes a minimum of three budget electric vehicles that will be particularly designed for developing markets including India. The first model from this project will be launched in next year.
