ANERT plans to install EV charging stations every 50 km in Kerala 

The Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT) has plans to establish an electric vehicle charging station every 50 km or 25 stations in each district of Kerala. In a year the whole network of charging stations will be solar-powered as the State’s e-mobility projects move forward.

The agency has planned to rope in private investors for setting up charging stations with the State’s road network emphasizing first on national highways and M.C. Road said ANERT.

The private individuals with the capable land for charging station can come forward and ANERT will help in providing the equipment and technical backup. In another case, if the investors want to invest money to set up a charging station then ANERT will help to find a suitable location for the charging station installation.

As electric vehicles are expected to be a future technology and will catch up in a bigger way within a few years. Investment in charging stations would be a smart move as more people have now shifted to electric vehicles from conventional vehicles and will grow day by day. ANERT has been completed its 135 site surveys across the state to set up charging stations.

ANERT initially plans to install a charging station in each district with Thiruvananthapuram having three stations as part of the electric mobility programme in which government departments will not be allowed to hire non-electric vehicles on long-term rent from next April.

It expects to supply 300 vehicles to various government departments, including local bodies, and to raise the number of e-vehicle supply to a thousand by next year.

For this, the agency ANERT will purchase electric vehicles through EESL and will sign a contract with the respective government department, which needs vehicles on rent. The cost of insurance and maintenance will be bear by the ANERT.

KSEB provides free EV charging facility for 3 months

Recently, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has decided to install free charging stations for electric vehicles. These charging stations will provide a free charging facility for 3 months to charge electric vehicles.

It will be installed in Corporation limits and will commence its operations from November 1. After 3 months the electric vehicles users must pay for charging their vehicles. They can pay their bills at the charging stations using a mobile application.

The KSEB will construct more 56 charging stations across the state. The project’s initial phase includes 6 charging stations installation at Thiruvanthapuram (Nemam), Kollam (Olayil), Palarivattom (Ernakulam), Thrissur (Viyyur), Kozhikode (Nallalam) and Kannur (Chovva).
