Canyon electric car-bike pedal hybrid concept
Canyon announced its “Future Mobility Concept,” to build the mobility market with its “pedal car” vehicle. Canyon envisions a fully-enclosed bathtub-sized vehicle that is powered by both its driver and electricity. It is somewhat like a car and a bicycle.

From Canyon’s CEO and founder Roman Arnold, we got to know that the company is pragmatically aware of the distance it has to cover before its urban mobility “pedal car” concept can become a reality. “It is a concept right now, but a clear statement of intent,” he said. The company is targeting customers that want to travel sustainably year around.
This model may look weird, but they are reimagining a fully-faired recumbent as an all-electric micro-car for the city with some important changes. Recumbent bikes will be powered entirely by a human pilot. There are some electrically assisted models but they are the e-bike versions and are limited to speed and vehicle licensing regulations which makes it little difficult to ride among fast traffic areas.

Canyon’s mobility concept is closer to a car than a bike and the company is talking with the carmakers to produce its chassis. As it has been born with a cyclist’s mindset Arnold still refers it to call as a concept bike rather than a car. The pedals of this car are not directly connected to the wheels instead the car-bike’s propulsion comes from electric motors but the rider must always keep pedalling for the vehicle to move.
Looking into its technical terms, it can travel at a speed of up to 60 kph and covers 150 km per charge. You can charge it at home form the socket like any other electric vehicle. The concept vehicle runs on two modes, one can travel up to 60 kph and in another limited to 25 kph.
The human pedalling helps the car-bike concept to increase the power of the vehicle or increases its range by charging the batteries which depend on the mode the vehicle is using while riding.
