The Renault has unveiled the Morphoz electric SUV concept. It is a compact crossover SUV and a shape-shifting concept designed to use it as a city car and a long-range cruiser. It will be on the CMF-EV platform which indicates that is related to the Common Modular Family platform which is currently used by the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance in models such as the Nissan Rogue and Renault Megane. 

Its modular design allows one vehicle to serve multiple functions. The car has a four-door coupe with short overhangs and a sloped roofline. One interesting fact about this crossover is that it can change its physical dimensions and transform into one of two versions in the City and Travel. The company also says that the concept “a personalized adaptation to the needs, desires and uses of each person.”

Gilles Normand, Renault’s senior vice president of electric vehicles said that “Morphoz is a concept, but what has been expressed by the styling department in some areas is a reinterpretation of what they intend for future production models.”

“Let’s say you can’t take it for face value, but it’s definitely the direction where we’re going. Some of the features, such as the configuration and roominess, are going to be of major value for cars based on this platform,” he added.

It is flexible enough to support multiple body styles with different wheelbase lengths, and its wheels pushed to the corners so that we get the maximise interior space.

To drive this, all you need to do is to unlock the vehicle and which its opposite-facing doors with no B pillars. The interiors use a selection of recycled materials. Now that was all about its interiors, let us now see what the company is providing its specifications.

The Renault Morphoz is equipped with a 40kWh battery that offers around 400km of range. The company believes that this range is enough for around 90 per cent of daily usage. It comes with two versions City and Travel.

The vehicle will be able to switch between the two. For the longer journey’s the vehicle can be switched to travel mode. The dimensions of this vehicle are length from 4,400mm to 4,800mm and the wheelbase from 2,730mm to 2,930mm offering more passenger space and luggage capacity.

An additional 50kWh battery can be installed at a special station and the total 90kWh capacity extends the range to 700km.

It has some of the other technologies such as artificial intelligence-based interface, semi-autonomous driver-assist features, wireless charging and 5G connectivity. The driver-assist features are at Level 3 self-driving capability on the SAE scale.
