Volvo to launch its first EV in India
Volvo, a Swedish luxury car company Volvo will launch its first fully electric car, XC40 in India in late 2021 or early 2022.
At current XC40 is sold in India with a petrol engine and is built on compact modular architecture platform (CMA). The company discontinued its diesel version recently.

The XC40 is the smallest sports utility vehicle (SUV) of all the three SUVs of Volvo which are on sale in India. It is one of the best selling products for Volvo in India which contributes 25 per cent of its sales.
It will be the first to get the new developed CMA platform which is perfect enough to modify it to electric. Whereas the Volvos other models will also move to the CMA platform.
The XC40 electric will first launch in Europe later this year. The Volvo rivals, Mercedes and Audi are also launching their electric vehicles in India. Mercedes-Benz which is said to be India’s largest luxury car maker launching its all-electric car, EQC whereas Audi will launch its electric car E-Tron.
On the other hand, the third largest luxury carmaker in India BMW is observing whether to bring electric vehicles in India. The Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover will launch its iPace, an all-electric car in India in the second half of 2020.
