Toyota is offering Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid Electric Cars
The HEV has two engines. One uses gasoline and the other is an electric motor that is powered by a battery. The two engines combine to obtain optimum fuel efficiency. The vehicle can rely completely on the battery-powered engine if the gasoline engine stops. The battery stores the kinetic energy, which it captures from braking and is powered by the gasoline engine.
Toyota’s HEV models are already in distribution in Indonesia which include the Camry Hybrid, the Alphard Hybrid, the Altis Hybrid, the CHR Hybrid and the Prius Hybrid.
The PHEV is also a hybrid vehicle that contains both a gasoline and an electric engine, but the only difference is that, here the battery can be recharged by external power sources like charging stations as well as home and office electrical outlets. The PHEV operates primarily on the electrical engine. when the battery is depleted, the gasoline engine will take over.
Toyota Camry Hybrid can run up to 18.4 kilometers, Toyota Alphard Hybrid e-Four 15 kilometers and Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle 55 kilometers. All the Toyota’s HEV models come with four driving modes, Normal, ECO, Sport and EV.
Normal mode is certainly nothing special. In ECO mode, the electronic control unit (ECU) operates gentler acceleration.
Sport mode displays the engine’s power and EV mode is relatively silent, since the vehicle switches to the electric motor.
The Prius has the battery capacity of 8.8 kWh, and the battery can be fully charged in about two hours using common household electrical outlets. Therefore, we can say that the Prius can travel farther in EV mode at high torque typical of electric engines. So, it is the most comfortable to drive. In EV mode, the Prius can travel 60 km depending on driving technique and road conditions.
