Tata Power and HPCL join forces to electrify India’s highways: EV chargers coming to petrol pumps

In a move that could significantly boost electric vehicle (EV) adoption in India, Tata Power and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) have joined hands to set up EV charging stations at HPCL’s petrol pumps across the country. This collaboration leverages the strengths of both companies:

  • Tata Power’s Expertise: A leading player in the EV charging space, Tata Power brings its experience and state-of-the-art EV charging infrastructure to the table. They already manage a network of over 500 public chargers in 100+ cities.
  • HPCL’s Widespread Network: HPCL boasts a vast network of fuel stations in major cities and along highways. This partnership provides Tata Power with ideal locations to install EV charging stations, making them easily accessible to EV users for both intra-city and intercity travel.

This strategic partnership aims to address a key challenge hindering EV adoption in India: range anxiety. By providing convenient charging options at petrol pumps, drivers will be less concerned about running out of power on long journeys.

Here’s what the partnership offers:

  • Extensive EV Charging Network: HPCL plans to install a whopping 5,000 EV charging stations by December 2024. This significant addition, along with Tata Power’s existing network, will significantly improve accessibility for EV owners.
  • Seamless Charging Experience: Tata Power’s award-winning EZ Charge mobile platform will be integrated with the charging stations. This app allows users to locate stations, initiate charging sessions, and make payments – all in a user-friendly manner.

Industry leaders optimistic about the future:

Both Tata Power and HPCL see this partnership as a major step forward in promoting sustainable mobility in India. Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, highlights the importance of widespread charging infrastructure for EV adoption. This collaboration signifies their commitment to building a robust EV ecosystem in India.

A positive step towards a greener future:

By making EV ownership a more practical option, this partnership between Tata Power and HPCL is a positive development for India’s environmental goals. With easier access to charging, more people are likely to consider switching to electric vehicles, reducing emissions and contributing to a cleaner future.
