Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has issued a tender to lease 1,500 electric buses. The tender will be issued in three different tenders of 500 (500*3)electric buses for a duration of 10 years.

The three different tenders cover to three different zones such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, and Ernakulam.

Electric buses-12-meter non-AC

The tender includes the battery-powered,12-meter non-AC buses on either the wet or dry lease.

Electric buses wet or dry lease

The bidder provides the buses along with a driver and KSRTC will keep its own conductor in a wet lease and in a dry lease KSRTC will deploy the driver and the conductor and the bidder will only provide the bus.

According to KSRTC,

Range 250 km, 

KSRTC can choose any option or can also go with the combination of both. The electric bus must function 250 kilometers on a single charge and should not be old more than 6 months during the supply of it to KSRTC.




Electric buses mileage minimum of 1.5 kWh/km

The bus must give a mileage of about a minimum of 1.5 kWh/km. Delivery of buses must be started within the 45 days of contract starts.

Bidder must give a guarantee of Range 

The guarantee for electric buses must be given by the bidders that it gives the range of 250 km on a single charge at 80%.

If the given range is not maintained or it is less than 95% the bidder must look into the issue immediately and take action to bring it to the not less than 95%.

Kerala electric vehicle policy 

Recently, the State announced its Electric Vehicles policy to set the aim to achieve the full electrified of vehicles in all the vehicle categories by 2030.

It aims to bring one million EVs on the road by 2022 and creating a pilot fleet of 200,000 two-wheelers, 50,000 three-wheelers, 1,000 goods carriers, 3000 buses and 100 ferry boats by 2020. 




Goa & Delhi issued tenders for e-buses 

Recently, the other states such as Goa and Delhi also issued the tenders for electric buses.
