A comparison of the top affordable electric scooters for 2023

After the FAME 2 subsidy reduction on e-scooters, all electric scooter prices went up. As you know people always consider affordability first and then other qualifications of products when buying. People welcome e-mobility positively and rapidly. And along with that they always want to meet their expectations and strive to get them within an affordable price range.

Electric scooters are leading in the EV field as it is affordable and more convenient for common people than electric cars. However, there are plenty of models available in the market with good performance and features. And from these people have to explore more to get the highest-quality affordable product for them which is a little confusing and tough. As the competition between e-scooter manufacturers remains at its highest level, they are also concerned about their customers and providing them with every possible facility and offer that users want to get.

So here in this article, we are trying to help you get the right affordable e-scooter by exploring their details and giving you a comparison between them. So here we choose the most promising leading e-scooters coming soon to the Indian market at affordable prices.

Ola S1 Air and Ather 450 S are the e-scooters we will explore and compare. As people explore the best electric scooters within an affordable price range these two fit in a leading position here.

Ola S1 Air VS Ather 450S

So, as we all know Ola launched its electric scooter in an affordable price range named Ola S1 Air. To compete with this Ather is launching Ather 450 S an affordable electric scooter in India.

In contrast to the existing lineup in Ather, this Ather 450S won’t have a large touchscreen display. There will be a smaller battery and less power than Ather 450X. But Ather is trying to give the same feel and power as a 125CC petrol engine in this Ather 450S electric scooter. While coming to Ola S1 Air more or less this scooter resembles the Ola S1 and S1 Pro it’s going to launch in an affordable price range.

IC vehicles will be the target of Ather’s attack. Ola is pretty sure they will end the ICE Age with this Ola S1 Air electric scooter. Well compared to the existing Ola lineup this Ola S1 Air will have telescopic suspension at the front and dual shock suspension, although they are rare and there won’t be any brand-new motors. Ather uses a BLDC hub motor in this Ola S1 Air. And there won’t be any bump in the foot space and a long grab rail. So these are the design changes and some technical changes when compared to Ola’s existing lineup and this newly-come Ola S1 Air.

And if you look at the design of the coming Ather 450S, it will be similar to the same as Ather 450X. Although this is not going to change in terms of design, we have already stated that the touchscreen display will disappear at Ola. The same can be said about this. There won’t be any major design differences in this Ola S1 Air compared to S1 Pro.

The Ather 450S electric scooter consists of a cube with a three-kilowatt-hour battery that cannot be removed. While coming to Ola, they also intend to equip with a three-kilowatt hour non-removable battery. Ola previously announced 2-kilowatt-hour and 4-kilowatt-hour variants. After Fame’s revision, they will only sell 3-kilowatt-hour battery variants for the range with this three-kilowatt-hour non-removable battery. Ather claims a range of 115 kilometers in the 450S and Ola claims a range of 125 kilometers in the Ola S1 Air. These are the IDC ranges.

When it comes to real-life conditions Ather 450S can give you an actual range of 85 kilometers whereas Ola can offer a range of 85 – 90 kilometers. The battery’s IDC and real-life ranges have been described here.

When it comes to Ather’s motors, nothing has been announced yet but we can guess they will use a four to five-kilowatt mid-drive motor in this 450S. And the top speed will be 90 kilometers per hour. When it comes to Ola they used a 4.4-kilowatt BLDC Hub motor in this Ola S1 Air. So, we can say that this is a major drawback in this Ola S1 Air. And its top speed will be 85 kilometers per hour.

If you come to charging time, the Ather 450S should take about 6-7 hours. There is no fast charging support for this Ather 450S. With the Ola S1 Air, it will be able to charge in 4-5 hours, and it will also have fast charging support.  So, users who buy this Ola S1 Air electric scooter can use Ola hyper charging stations to charge it.

When it comes to colors Ather has not yet announced their colors but Ola is going to be available in four different colors. In addition to that, it is also available in dual-tone colors.

Now we come to boot space. Ather may have 22 liters and when it comes to Ola they offer 34 liters of space in their new product.

And if it comes to the features, there won’t be any features in this Ather 450S electric scooter. This will be a basic scooter which competes with petrol engines in that price range. There won’t be any large TFT display, features, navigation, no Auto holders. It will be a basic electric scooter with a basic display with minimalistic information. When it comes to Ola S1  Air, Ola is offering the same display as S1 Pro. This is a 7-inch touchscreen display and there will be keyless entry, music player, navigation, party mode, mood themes, etc. So, Ola S1 Air will be full of features.

When it comes to the service this Ather 450S is planned to sell, we currently have existing Ather dealerships and it’s going to be serviced in the current Ather service centers. As we all know, Ola has experience centers in all major cities. Ola also offers home delivery services. And you can serve this Ola S1 Air in existing Ola service centers.

Regarding the warranty offers, we can expect both of these players to offer 3 years or 30,000 kilometers. And there will be an extended warranty option available.

Finally when it comes to pricing the ex-showroom price of the Ather 450S electric scooter is 1.3 lakh rupees and the actual room cost of the Ola S1 Air is 3-kilowatt hours is 1.1 lakh rupees. There is a difference of 20,000 rupees between both models. The Ather 450S is more expensive than the Ola S1 Air by 20,000.

If we look at the range more or less, there will be an 85-kilometer range in both these e-scooters. But the advantage of Ather 450S is its build quality and performance. Moreover, the Ola S1 Air has several features to offer.

So, the final decision will be in your hands. Based on this comparison, which one would you choose to make your dream of an exciting, enjoyable ride a reality at an affordable price? Select the best option from the many options in the market to make your ride special and affordable.
