Concessions on toll fees on EVs

As government recently cut down the goods and services (GST) on electric vehicles and also we received an announcement from the Transport Minister, Mr.Nitin Gadkari that the government will not impose any deadlines for transition to electric vehicles.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has sent the draft policy of toll for the consultaion in the nodal ministry of road transport and highways which will be sent for Gadkari’s approval. The highways ministry had hired Boston Consultancy Group (BCG) to prepare a draft toll policy with NHAI.

The official commented on the toll policy is that the toll policy have few changes and exemption is one of them.

The other official said that NHAI suggested exemption of EVs from toll payment but it may take away the revenues of NHAI and private concessionaires may want to compensate for this loss from the highways building authority.

“Providing some sort of concession is a better way, so the revenues of NHAI are protected.”
The concession will be applicable for the first 5 years from the date the policy is announced said the other official.
