Sales of Volvo’s all-electric vehicles exceeded those of plug-in hybrids
The electric vehicle (EV) industry is moving full throttle forward, so folks, fasten your seatbelts. And soon, there will be no more resistance. We’ve got some exciting news for you. In June 2023, Volvo’s sales of purely electric vehicles surpassed sales of plug-in hybrids for the first time.
Breaking Down the Numbers: BEVs vs PHEVs
Check out these numbers:
- The number of BEVs reached 2,123 (up 284% over the previous year) and the share was 16.4%
- 1,670 PHEVs were sold (up 7% year-over-year) and accounted for 12.9% of the market
- There were 3,793 total recharges (up 79% from last year) and 29.3% of the market.
First time since the introduction of plug-in hybrids in 2008, Volvo all-electric cars have surpassed the sale of plug-in hybrids in terms of sales.
What’s it all about?
At this point, you may be wondering if this is just a one-time event or if we can expect this trend to continue. Volvo sold nearly 9,778 plug-in electric cars in the second quarter of 2023. Granted, this is one percent less than last year but wait a minute. Let’s talk about BEVs. BEV has sold 4,821 units, a 124% increase over last year.
By mid-2023, more than 17,500 plug-in electric vehicles will be sold in the US alone. This accounts for about 29 percent of the total volume.
The Future of Volvo: New Models
In 2024, Volvo will introduce the C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge as its new models. The specs of these newcomers for 2023 are better than their predecessors, which will turn heads. Note, however, that these imported models are not eligible for the $7,500 tax credit.
Future plans with boldness
To achieve a more sustainable future, Volvo aims to increase its global sales share of purely electric vehicles to 100% by 2030. This ambitious goal includes plans to increase annual sales to 1.2 million units.
The future is bright and inspiring! And with Volvo taking the lead in driving these sustainable innovations, it looks like we’re on a very exciting journey.
