Ownership review of the Tata Nexon EV Prime after two and a half years and 25,700 kilometers
Electric vehicles are growing rapidly, which means many changes are coming to the transportation sector. In particular, electric vehicles are increasingly equipped with more advanced functions and superior performance. Many websites advertise electric vehicles, including ours. Competition is fierce in every category of the electric vehicle sector. So customers don’t know which one is right for them. We’ve discussed different electric vehicles and their features, prices, range, and more. It is usually checked before buying an electric car. But there is another thing to check before buying an electric car. This is a product review by a customer who has purchased the same product before and experienced all the pros and cons.
The Tata Nexon is one of the most popular electric vehicles and a must-have for car enthusiasts. Here is a long-term customer review of the Tata Nexon EV Prime. Anirudh, a user of the Tata Nexon EV Prime car, shared his experience with Tata Nexon EV vehicles, service, and maintenance. That was 25,000km and two and a half years later.
After 2.5 years, any changes in range and performance?
Anirudh said there was no range loss. It depends on the season and the load you put on the car. Battery range decreases at 40-42 degrees Celsius. And somewhere it even reaches the range between 180 and 190. Even in winter, the cruise range may be shortened. Tata Nexon EV Prime is doing well, but we have not seen any decline. He added that performance improved after the Prime upgrade. He is waiting for performance updates and other features Tata plans to roll out each year.
Details on the battery and charging
When asked about the difference in charging time and battery performance, Anirudh said charging time varies with the season, as does range. This summer, he said, cars took longer to recharge and had more recharging outlets. Previously, the car had been charged at about 10% per hour. So, before it took about 8 hours to achieve approximately 20-100%, but now it’s about 7% per hour. So, if you do the math, it will take 13-14 hours.
For security reasons, they are reducing load times when asking data people what’s going on in the upper data fields. That is why it is dragging on so long. He said temperature affects the Tata Nexon EV Prime charging time. According to him, this is the only issue currently. Some customers are experiencing this issue, and others are not experiencing this issue.
So, they are also confused about the issue, he added.
Bills of service and periodic maintenance
According to his last bill, Mr. Anirudh received a bill with a labor cost of 1,787. For him, this was his 5th service and it cost him between 2000 and 3000.
The company changes the gear oil every year, which costs about Rs 1800. And that is the only major service. Each year you change your transmission oil, the cost will be added to your bill in addition to the labor cost. And now service costs are increasing compared to two years. And so far, he has done five service appointments, the first two have been free since the electric car was brought. He received about 300 rupees for the first service and was charged about 1800 rupees for the second free service. The bill for the service he received was between 2,000 and 3,000 rupees.
Moreover, if there are any other issues with the AC filter, you will have to pay an additional fee if the AC filter is replaced. The Service Interval of Tata Nexon EV 6 months or 7500km, whichever comes first. Therefore, the annual maintenance cost of this Tata Nexon EV Prime is Rs 4,000-5,000.
And as he said there is no other service except a transmission oil change. I usually check the components. Simply correct the error or reset the settings and remove oil and dust from all components, wheel elements, and wheel balances. Washing with water is free. If you want an additional foam wash or another interior wash, there is a significant additional charge for this service.
Response from the service center
To be honest, the service center has been much more disappointing for the last two years. The service is now significantly less satisfactory than it used to be. The only reason is Tata is number two in sales. So It overtook Hyundai and took second place. More and more people buy Tatas every day, and it’s great that everyone wants a durable and safe car. The only thing is that cars have increased and service centers remain same.
Mr. Anirudh said that whenever he brought his car in for service, he would be kept for two days. If you give car to service today, the delivery will be done next day. When I asked them what was taking place, they said they had backlogs. I used to get delivery within 1 day, now it takes 2 days.
And the majority of customers are asking the Tata team to either increase the number of service centers or, like the Marti Nexa franchise, split its EV franchise into the Tata EV franchise. And if we increase the number of service centers so that everyone can offer an electric vehicle from this ICE segment, we will have our electric vehicle platform and service center. The majority of Tata Nexon owners said they had no specialists to service their vehicles.
Component warranties and other issues
According to Anirudh’s review, he replaced the charger two and a half years after purchasing the car. The car comes with a 3-year warranty which covers additional components such as chargers, AC components, and other electrical components. And I replaced the charger under this warranty. The charger costs around Rs 30,600 and is fully refundable under warranty. Furthermore, the user can extend the warranty by 2 years in addition to 3 years. This will take another two years and require 32,000 changes.
So, as a long-term user, he makes a very simple proposition. Instead of premium insurance, reduce coverage and opt for an extended warranty. As a result of the high quality of processing, you won’t have to pay too much for insurance as a result of his proposal.
Apart from these discussed issues, One more major issue is observed in all Tata Nexon cars, either it might be petrol, diesel or electric. After 15,000 – 20,000 kms, a noise is noticed from suspension. So, that indicates, a component called lower arm bushes are been tarred down. They are wear and tear items and are not covered under warranty. So they cost you around RS. 2000 and are available in all tata service centres. Therefore, suspension, tires, etc., are not covered by the warranty.
What customers have to say
Customer feedback indicates that the problem is resolved after part repair or replacement. However, it became obvious to them that they never received any emails or messages containing feedback on the service. It would be really helpful if it could be improved. The company is on track to move up to No. 1 soon, and Tata could overtake Maruti. If the service is accepted, it will be at the top of the list.
One of the things everyone feels when shifting to Tata is its build quality. Even if the service is good, the company comes first. That’s what Tata customers want.
